Association of China–Spain Science and Technology Youth Science Program (Series II) Successfully Held

Under the guidance of Professor De-Yi Wang, President of the Association of China–Spain Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “ACSST”), the Association successfully held the second science activity for its first cohort of youth members on February 27, 2026, at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (UFV).

The event, themed “Additive Manufacturing – Shaping the Future through Digital Fabrication,” combined a thematic lecture with experimental demonstrations. It guided youth members to systematically understand the relationship between “additive manufacturing” and “3D printing,” as well as the current development status and application prospects of 3D printing technology, further enhancing their scientific literacy and innovative awareness.

The first module of the event was delivered by Dr. Guang-Zhong Yin. Focusing on the development background and future trends of 3D printing technology, Dr. Yin systematically elaborated on three aspects: the definition and technical principles of 3D printing, its advantages and contemporary significance, and its applications in fields such as biomedical area.

The lecture combined theoretical depth with practical inspiration, helping youth members establish a comprehensive understanding of the 3D printing technology system and expand their knowledge of digital manufacturing. During the interactive session, participants actively asked questions and engaged in discussions on technical principles, application scenarios, and development trends, demonstrating strong scientific thinking skills and a spirit of exploration. After the lecture, the youth members took a group photo with Dr. Yin.

Subsequently, all participants visited the 3D printing laboratory at UFV for a practical session. Dr. Rohit Khargotra provided a case explanation and live demonstration of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology, delivering the entire professional presentation in English. During the practical session, members and parents engaged in in-depth discussions on specific technical topics, including production efficiency, material selection, internal structure of printed components, and the necessity of support structures. The atmosphere was focused and lively, with active and meaningful exchanges. At the end of the activity, we presented each youth member with a commemorative souvenir printed using FDM technology as a testament to the outcomes of the scientific practice activity.

Through the dual-module design of “theoretical lecture + experimental demonstration,” this event not only strengthened youth members’ understanding of the fundamental principles and application value of 3D printing technology, but also effectively stimulated their interest in digital manufacturing and cutting-edge science and technology. ACSST will continue to promote science education and practical activities for young people, build a diversified and international platform for scientific exchange, help broaden horizons and cultivate innovation capacity, and lay a solid foundation for the growth of future scientific talents.
